49-year-old Celso Perez of Orange, Texas died in a wreck with an 18-wheeler yesterday in the town of Mauriceville, Texas.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Perez was headed southbound in a Chevy pickup truck on Highway 62 near the intersection with FM 1130. An 18-wheeler tanker truck, heading north on Highway 62. DPS stated that Perez lost control of his truck, crossed the median, and ran headfirst into the 18-wheeler. Officials were not sure exactly what caused Perez to lose control of his vehicle.
Perez was found dead on the scene. The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Both north- and southbound lanes of Highway 62 were shut down for several hours as crews investigated and cleaned up the accident.
