Good Samaritans Hit by Drunk Driver After 6-Person Car Crash

A 17-year-old teen and a doctor were hit by a suspected drunk driver early Sunday morning after attempting to help six other victims of a car crash.

The initial car crash took place on Interstate 96 heading east, near Davison, Michigan, at about 7:30 a.m. According to police reports, the driver of a Jeep lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The Jeep was carrying 6 passengers between age 14 and 19. No other vehicles were involved in this initial incident.

Several witnesses reportedly stopped to assist the passengers of the Jeep. Unfortunately, just after the first accident occurred, a second eastbound vehicle lost control and struck two of the people assisting in the first wreck. Police stated that the driver of this vehicle was a 17-year-0ld boy who is currently suspected of drunk driving. The unidentified 17-year-old was unresponsive to assistance and had to be cut out of his vehicle.

In all, nine people were sent to nearby hospitals. Three of those, comprised of the two good Samaritans and the drunk driver, were in critical condition. The 17-year-old good Samaritan had his foot amputated by doctors, while the other good Samaritan, a 47-year-old doctor, underwent a neurosurgical procedure at Sinai-Grace Hospital.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and police are under the belief that alcohol was involved in the second wreck.
