Four People Killed in Salem, West Virginia Highway Accident

A highway accident in Salem, West Virginia left four people dead and a fifth personal critically injured Wednesday evening.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s office, the accident took place on Route 50 when a gray full-size pickup truck, moving westbound, crossed over the middle of the road and struck a flatbed 18-wheeler truck moving in the opposite direction. A third vehicle then appears to have been involved in the wreck, though those details are unclear at this point.

Four people in the pickup truck were killed, and a fifth passenger was transported to a nearby hospital in “very critical” condition. The drivers of the flatbed truck and the third unidentified vehicle were also taken to the hospital but did not suffer any major injuries, and are expected to be okay.

Route 50 was closed for several hours while an accident reconstructionist examined the scene.

Since the investigation is incomplete at this time, it is not known exactly why the pickup truck crossed the median of the road into oncoming traffic.
