At about 3:45 a.m. on September 27th, an 18-wheeler crashed into a Ford Focus near Trinity Boulevard and State Highway 360. The accident resulted in extensive injuries to one person in the car. According to the Fort Worth Police Department, the car “slammed into the back of the 18-wheeler, got lodged underneath and was dragged to the shoulder.” The individual was extracted from the car and transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition. Police temporarily shut down the northbound side of SH 360 while an investigation took place.
Though at this time it is not clear exactly what caused this accident, crashes such as these demonstrate the enormous amount of damage that can be caused in auto collisions with large trucks, and the seriousness with which drivers must operate when driving near 18-wheelers. Traffic accidents in Dallas County involving commercial motor vehicles have gone up year over year since 2012, from 2,797 in 2012 to 3,598 in 2015. Fatalities from these same types of accidents have also starkly increased in the same time frame, more than doubling from 15 in 2012 to 31 in 2015.
