4 Killed, 2 Injured in Wrens, Georgia 18-Wheeler Accident

4 people were killed and 2 injured in a crash between an 18-wheeler and a car late Friday night in Wrens, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol stated that the wreck occurred when a Nissan Altima sedan drove into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer.

The four deceased are Pratima Subedi, Reecha Pant, Chiranjeebee Khanal, and Jibanjari Sharma Kanal. All four were seated in the back seat of the sedan. The driver of the 18-wheeler, as well as the two passengers in the front seat of the sedan, survived. The passengers in the car were all directly related. The driver and passenger in the front seat were brothers, and the victims in the back seat were the brothers’ mother, father, sister-in-law, and girlfriend of the driver. The passenger and driver of the sedan were transported via EMS to a nearby hospital, and are expected to be okay. The passenger underwent surgery.

The Jefferson County coroner stated that the truck driver saw the car coming and tried to swerve to miss them, but the two vehicles still collided. The intersection where the wreck occurred, between Highways 88 and 296, is reportedly one of the more dangerous intersections in the state. Three wrecks have occurred at the intersection this year alone.

Police are still undergoing an investigation of the crash scene. No cause for the wreck has been determined, and it is not clear if there are any contributing factors such as drugs, alcohol, or driver fatigue.
